4th of July

It was Kylie's first 4th of July!  I had plans to go and check out the parade in the morning, but Kylie is young and I didn't want to deal with the crowd by myself.  The morning was relaxing as Kylie and I just stayed home.  It was good that Kylie was able to get a good nap as she had a late night.  Family came up in the afternoon and we had a late lunch of fried chicken.

Scott had to work that night so after he left, we headed to the park where the fireworks were going to go off.  We found a place in the shade and played a very long game of UNO.  The park was showing the Lego Movie, but we didn't sit where we could watch it.  The fireworks didn't start until 10pm.  There was a street lamp that was on right in front of us, so it was annoying to have this bright light in our face.  The fireworks were good, but it was a long show!  It started to get boring and there wasn't any music (that we could hear anyway. We could barely hear some in the distance).  It took us a little bit to leave, so it was about 11:30pm when we got home.  Kylie did great during the fireworks and kept pointing at them.

4th of July is a fun holiday and I hope we can make some fun traditions in the years to come.

June Goals

I feel much better at what I accomplished in June.  I completed all monthly goals except one and did great at the weekly goals.  I love when I accomplish a lot as it gives me motivation to do just as well the next month.  For a house project, I ordered some canvas pictures to hang up in our family room.  I ordered them late enough in the month that I haven't received them yet, so I'm rolling it over to be my goal in July.  I did do an alternate project and put up new pictures in the frames around the house.  I had 25 free prints from Wal-Mart that was going to expire so I ordered pictures to go in frames and then some for Kylie's baby book.  Speaking of, I updated Kylie's baby book up to 9 months (I hadn't taken her 10 month pictures yet).  I even hole punched the cards we received and put them in her book as well.

Scott and I had a date night thanks to Brianna & Kyle baby-sitting.  We need to milk their baby-sitting abilities as much as we can before they leave!  We went to dinner at Chili's, saw X-Men Days of Future Past and got shakes at Sonic for dessert.  I enjoyed the movie, but Scott was a little disappointed by it.  I wasn't planning on seeing any of Scott's soccer games as they were all really late, however it worked out that Kylie and I got to watch one.  Kylie loves going and watching her daddy play soccer.  I didn't get to completing my craft project, but I did buy all the materials for it.  I'm rolling that goal over into next month as well as it has to be done in July.

On the 6th, we had a get together with our friends again.  We had more people attend this time as our friend Brook from Vegas was in town and Liz came as well (she had a baby in April).  We had a pool party and BBQ which was super fun.

Scott and I were able to make it to the temple in June as well!  My mom baby-sat this time.  It was really nice to go after it had been a few months since we'd been.
For out of the house activities, we had fun each week.  The first week, we went to the zoo w/ Brita and Nadine.  Scott and I also had a picnic at the park by the library.
The second week, I went to the outdoor movie with Amanda, which I mentioned before.  We also went to Boondocks with Brianna & Kyle to use up our tickets from last time we went.  The third week of June was spent seeing some fellow teachers.  I went to my FACS conference (which I will go to every year to keep up my license) and hung out with Teresa and saw Jodelle a few times.  It was nice to be able to go to the "fun" classes instead of ones always relating to the classroom.  I was able to go to a weight loss class, a cupcake class, a cake decorating class, a class about quick meals and more.  I love going to classes and using what I learn at home.  I also went to a cookout for a fellow teacher who got a new job after school got out.  I carpooled with Heather (as we live right across the street from one another) and saw many familiar faces.  I do miss being able to see and talk with them everyday, so it was great to catch up.
We also had family over to have a BBQ and watch USA play in the World Cup (who tied Portugal).  Kylie had a chance to try out her 4th of July outfit.
The last week of June (the 28th), we went swimming as a family down in Lehi.  Kylie loved it, but did get cold pretty quickly.  I had to take her out a few times and wrap her in a towel to warm her back up.  She refused to nap despite how tired she was.  After swimming, we headed to Kyle & Brianna's, ate Chinese and watched a movie.
I did great on cooking at home and there was only one week that I didn't do well with working out (the 3rd week).  I bought a jogging stroller off a yard sale site for $40, so I'm excited to try it out as I'll be able to run anytime now instead of waiting for Scott to be available to watch Kylie.  The most I've ran so far is 2 miles, but it sure feels good to pick it back up again.

As you can tell by this long post, June was a great month!  July should be a fun, busy month as well.

10 Months!

Kylie is the busiest 10 month old!  There is just so much to see and explore in this world and she wants to see it all.  I know that I said in the last month's post that I wasn't sure Kylie was officially walking yet.  Well, I can't say that I'm not sure anymore!  She has been full-blown walking for a few weeks now!  It is so adorable to see her walking circles around the house.  I love seeing Kylie grow up.  I know that some people have a hard time with seeing their baby get older, but Scott and I are truly enjoying it right now.  He asked me if I could, would I want Kylie as a newborn again and I said no.  I am having so much fun teaching her things and seeing her learn things on her own.

  • Kylie has a few "tricks" she's doing now.  Some she's been doing for a bit and others she just recently started doing.  Kylie will shake her head (like saying "no"), but most of the time it doesn't mean no.  She also claps her hands now and she especially likes to do it while walking.  Kylie can give a high five and she is starting to wave bye now, but it's not too noticeable yet.
  • I just discovered this yesterday, but Kylie is cutting her first tooth!!  She hasn't been sick, but a little more tired with a little more drool.  It's about time!
  • Kylie likes to walk with her blanket slung over her shoulder now.  She'll trip over it constantly, but it's so cute how much she loves the comfort of a blanket.
  • Kylie also likes to play peek-a-boo with her blanket and she'll do it herself! She pulls the blanket over her head and then I say peek-a-boo whenever she puts it back down.
There are just so many little things that Kylie is doing now, it's hard to remember them all.  She is just the cutest and makes me laugh every day.  We are so lucky to have this girl in our life.

Father's Day

Sunday, June 15th was Scott's first father's day! I think Scott had a great day and I'm glad he did.  We have church early (9am), so I wasn't able to make breakfast for him (and I forgot to take the sausage out of the freezer the night before).  So I made him breakfast (biscuits and gravy) for lunch.  It's one of his favorite breakfast meals.
Daddy sharing his pie with Kylie.
She loved it.
Scott spent the day doing what he enjoys the most in his down time: watching sports.  There were soccer games on and the NBA finals were going on.  I made Scott a yummy dinner of tri-tip steak, baked potatoes and veggies with scones for dessert.  One of the ways to Scott's heart is through his stomach.

For a gift, I found out this girl in the mommy group (on Facebook) makes vinyl decals and was offering to make them for father's day.  I messaged her, bought a shirt and she put it on for me.  It's nothing big or fancy, but I like that it's different.
Scott has been an exceptional father to Kylie.  He is just so great with her that I wouldn't be surprised if Kylie really becomes a daddy's girl.  No parent is perfect, but I know that Scott will do the best he can to give Kylie all that she deserves and that's what matters.  Kylie and I love you Scott!  Here's to having many more happy father's days.

Tuesday Thoughts

I can't really do a high-five for Friday post on a Tuesday, right? So, I think Tuesday Thoughts works as a title for what I would write on a Friday post.

1. The most common thing amongst people all over the U.S. right now is the soccer world cup! Of course we are watching it all day, every day.  Scott is loving being able to watch soccer all the time.  I'm not usually a fan of watching soccer on t.v. as it can get a little boring to watch, but it is much more exciting during the world cup. Especially when the United States is playing!

2. Last Friday the 13th, I invited my friend Amanda to go see an outdoor movie (Despicable Me 2) with me.  Scott had to work that night and the movie was free, so why not?  It was so good to catch up with her!  The movie started at 9:00pm and Kylie didn't fall asleep before it started so she was awake for all but the last 10 minutes of the movie.  It's a late night for her, but I figure that if it only happens once every two weeks then it's not a bad thing.  We talked about going to see an outdoor movie together every other Friday this summer.  It'll be fun!

3. Last week, we headed down to Provo to take care of something real quick.  We got done pretty quickly and had some time to kill before meeting Kyle and Brianna at Boondocks.  We walked through the Wilkinson Student Center and Scott wanted some ice cream.  He shared with Kylie and she loved it.
We also stopped by my mom's office at the BYU library, but she was up in Salt Lake that day.  So we put Kylie to work to help out. :)
Can't pull her away.
4. Scott always jokes about how much he doesn't like Maddie and will "yell" at her when she sits next to him, but I know how much he really loves her.
5. Kylie is so active throughout the day that she falls asleep pretty quickly for her naps and at night. Sometimes I don't even rock her or sing to her before putting her in the crib. I caught her sleeping like this and just had to take a picture! It is too funny.

May Goals

So, the month of May was not so successful in accomplishing goals.  My motivation slipped a little bit, but it is back on for June!  It's interesting to note how up and down accomplishing my goals since January has been. As long as it doesn't stay down, I think I am doing well.  I think I gave up on spring cleaning the house.  I feel like I need a whole day to myself to be able to really get it done.  My goal for Kylie was to update her baby book, but I didn't get to that.  A date night didn't really occur either.  We tried to do one out of the date jar, but we weren't even together to have the milkshake together.  Sonic has half price shakes after 8pm and Kylie was already in bed, so Scott had to run out to get one and it took like 30 minutes to get it.  We shared it, but I guess it didn't feel date-ish.  Kylie and I didn't go to a soccer game nor did I do a craft. We also didn't make it to the temple.  We did have a fun get together with friends!! It was at James and Nichole's house this time and it was super fun. Kylie was walking laps around their kitchen, but she was a little fussy as she didn't get good naps during the day.  I am so glad we are having these monthly dinners. It gives me something to look forward to each month.

As you can tell, I got one goal accomplished there. Not great, but I am firm on doing better in June.  We did do good on out of the house activities once a week.  The first week of May, we went and fed the ducks at Gardner Village.  There weren't many and it was a little chilly, but it was fun.
The second week, we walked to the park down the street and put Kylie in the swing.  There's pictures of that on the 9-month post.  The next week we went to Vegas and did plenty of activities there.  Our activity the last week of May was the hike we went on for memorial day.  I did great with meal planning, but not so great with exercising.  I'm starting to keep a health journal where I write down everything I ate that day and if I exercised or not.  I'm not being super specific on writing down everything, but it does make me think about what I'm eating as I want to see more healthier choices on it.  It's hard as I want results right away and get disappointed when I don't see them.  I need to slow down and make it more of a healthy life change instead of a temporary change.

I think June's goals will go well as it is summer now and lots more activities are going on!!  I'm looking forward to being out and about with Kylie.

Memorial Day Hike

Memorial day turned out well! Since we are headed toward Yosemite to hike Half Dome in August, we need to get in shape and start hiking.  We headed out to Bells Canyon and it was a popular hike to hide that day.  Despite the number of people on the trail, it was a good hike and the waterfall definitely cooled us down.  Kylie did great as well!  We tried out the carrier in the backpack position for the first time and she enjoyed it.  I lost the hat I borrowed from Brita in Vegas so I had to buy Kylie a new hat.  This one is a little too big so it's a little hard for her to see sometimes.  At least I know that her face is covered from the sun.

After the hike, we stayed the rest of the day at Grandma Omer's.  Andrew and his family came up and we all had a yummy dinner.  Everyone was exhausted from activities earlier in the day, so we all just talked and relaxed.  It was a nice day.

Look at those eye lashes!
