August Activities

Some other fun things happened in August that I'm going to document here.  Scott and I celebrated our 6-year anniversary! We planned to go out to dinner and a movie, but the movie wasn't one we were too interested in and we weren't sure where we wanted to eat out. We were at Scott's parents house and didn't know all that was down in that area. Scott suggested getting Chinese food and renting a redbox and watching it in the theater room. There weren't any movies at redbox, but we bought Batman vs. Superman. It worked well until I started falling asleep during the movie, so we put finishing it on hold. We've accomplished a lot in our 6 years of marriage together and I can't wait to see what else we'll accomplish in our life together. I'm excited for what's happening now, but I'm also excited to see what the future holds.
Playing games! Something we love to do together and with family.
All ready to watch the movie!
Cute dessert made by Scott's mom.
The first Tuesday of the month, we got invited to go to the Museum of Ancient Life (aka the dinosaur museum) by Brita. In August, Thanksgiving Point has $2 Tuesdays where anything there is only $2 admission. We got lucky and it was hardly busy so it was fun to check out. I had some trouble with the fact that Kylie wouldn't go potty at all until the very end when all of Brita's kids went potty. This potty training business sure puts some stress on situations. I hope it gets resolved soon. Anyway, Kylie had fun and we got some free mini ice cream cones to finish it off.

On our monthly Costco trip, we had fun looking at some of the Halloween decorations and the giant stuffed bears they have there.
On the 12th my mom, Kylie and I headed to Grantsville to get our hair cut by my cousin Melissa. It's a ways to drive for a haircut, but we were desperate and didn't know who else to go too. It worked out fine as only one other person was in the salon, so Kylie could play around a bit without being trouble. She did so great sitting in the chair and holding still while Melissa trimmed her hair. Since I'm not consistent about when I get my haircut, it might not be a big deal to make the trek out when I do need one.
On Tuesday the 16th I went to a girls night out with my friend Amanda. We follow this blog called fun, cheap or free on Facebook and Instagram. She lives here in Utah and a girls night out a month or so ago. My friend Amanda went to that one and it looked like a lot of fun! When I saw that tickets were on sale for the second one, I asked her if she wanted to come with me and she said yes! We went and it was fun! We played get to know you Bingo where you have to find someone to sign a square based on if they've done it or not. Apparently, I was the only person there who had run a marathon, so when Jordan (the person who runs the blog) pointed me out, there was a mad rush for me to sign everyone's paper! It was pretty funny. We had some yummy treats and then Jordan did a great presentation about confidence, motherhood and being positive. It was nice to have that and talk with other people feeling the same way. We played some games and then she had a raffle where I won a foot pedicure thing. It was a good girls night out.
Before we left to go to the Davis County Fair, we went to Kylie's preschool orientation. We are doing an in-home preschool (Busy Little Bee's) with someone in our ward. She is super nice and we used to be visiting teaching companions. She took the kids on a tour of the place and did a little scavenger hunt with them. Then they colored while the parents looked over all the paper work. We will be missing the first two days of school, as we'll be in California, but I can't wait for her to start. We already bought her a Frozen backpack. I think preschool will be so good for her and Kylie is excited for it as well.
Whew! I think that's it for August! We are getting ready to head off to California in the next couple of days! We have so many fun activities planned (Killian's baby blessing, the beach, Disneyland, hanging with Scott's brothers, etc.) and we can't wait.

Harry Potter 5k

On Saturday, August 20th I ran the Harry Potter 5k. It was good to have a reason to get out and run (even though I wasn't consistent) and I forgot how fun races can be. The race was at the West Jordan library, so we didn't have to travel far for it. When Scott and I were figuring out his work schedule, I forgot to tell him to take that day off and he signed up for it. Luckily, he found a nice co-worker who worked the first couple of hours for him so he could be there to watch me race. Scott's parents were nice and came to watch my race as well! I ran the race in 31 minutes which, for my first race in over 3 years, is pretty good. I ran into my friend Heather who is still a teacher at Wasatch Jr. High. It was fun to see her and catch up a little bit. After the race, Scott went to work and Scott's parents offered to take the kids so I could rest. They were going to lunch and pick peaches before Becky left for Vegas. I headed back to my house to change and grab a few things and then I hung out at their house while they took Kylie and Jordan with them. It was nice to relax and watch Netflix in the movie room. The kids had a blast and so it all worked out. Since Scott's leg is doing better, maybe I'll look for another 5k in the fall that we can do together. It'll give me motivation to keep running. :)
Me and Heather!
Cute boy.
Posing with some characters. I don't know if you can tell, but Kylie has a wand.
At the start! Of course my eyes are closed.
Doing good!
My cheering squad! Plus Scott who's taking the picture.
I was with the tutu girl for a while except the last lap I ran ahead and beat her.
My medal.
Everybody peach picking.

Davis County Fair

On Wednesday, the 17th we headed to the Davis County Fair. This is where we got to ride an elephant last year. They have elephants you can ride every year. Since we have a kid who's potty training and a kid who's napping, we left early and didn't ride an elephant this year. It was still fun to go up and have Kylie ride a pony twice, feed and pet some farm animals, play on a pirate ship with her cousins and watch a circus show.
The line was short enough that Kylie was able to ride twice!
Feeding a camel!
Geese! I love that they just had the animals wandering free.
Last year she was scared to touch or feed them. She had no reservations this time.
There were two pirate ships to play on.
My fair food was waffle love and Scott's was funnel cake.

Peach Picking

For his birthday, Scott told me he wanted to go pick peaches in an orchard. Well, peaches weren't going to be ready in time for his birthday so I gave him rain check. I signed up to receive an email for when the peaches are ready and I got one 2 weeks into August saying the date. We found a day that we'd be free to go and we headed down to Payson for some peach picking! We showed up to the house and there was a table and sign saying where to pick and how much a box was. You just grab a box, pick as much as you want and then leave cash in an envelope. The peach trees were so full that we could have picked a whole box off of just one tree. Jordan and Kylie had fun eating peaches. We got 30 lbs. of peaches for $18. They were so ripe that just the next day some of the peaches were already bruising. We made smoothies and had peaches at every meal and then I froze most of them. It will be nice to have some peaches for smoothies during the winter months. Plus, it could help a certain little boy whenever he is teething. It was a fun little outing and I'm glad we were able to find a time to do it.
