California Vacation-days 1&2

We had a wonderful vacation to California at the beginning of September. We've been super busy since then, so that's why I'm blogging about a month later. On Thursday, September 1st we left Utah around 7:40pm. My mom rode with us and it was nice to have an extra person to help take care of kids and to drive in the middle of the night. Scott drove first for about 2 1/2 hours, then I drove for about an hour and a half. My mom wanted to take over and so she drove for a while and then Scott finished off driving and we arrived in Escondido around 5:30am. We stopped at the store first to get some almond milk and breakfast and then we went to sleep once we got there. Of course the kids didn't sleep for much longer and I am thankful for phones as that kept Kylie occupied. Once Jordan woke up, family took care of him while we slept in a little bit longer. Once we got up, my mom, Kyle and Brianna went to Costco to get things for the baby blessing. It was nice that they took Kylie with them and we watched TV while Jordan took a nap. Once he got up from his nap, we went to lunch at Farmer Boys. While there, we saw Kyle's brother Ian and his wife Whitney. What a small world. Once they returned from Costco, we tried putting Kylie down for a nap. Since she wouldn't go down, we decided to go swimming instead. Kylie loved it and had fun jumping in the pool, going down the slide and getting thrown up high in the air by Kyle. After swimming, we had dinner made by Trudy. We got Kylie down to sleep at 7:30 and she slept all night. Rebecca dropped Andrew off to talk about plans for the next day and then shortly after that, we all headed to bed.

Saturday, September 3rd, was beach day! We headed out at 9am and stopped to get donuts for my mom's birthday. They were large, fluffy, delicious donuts. We then stopped by Kyle's grandma's trailer (where Andrew & Rebecca were staying) so we could all go to the beach together. We went to Moonlight beach and it was wonderful. I had never heard of that beach, but if I lived nearby that is the beach I'd go to most often. It's a smaller beach and it's more kid friendly. The waves aren't as big and there's more sand for the kids to play, walk and build sand castles on. The parking is close and free (which makes it way better than the beaches where you have to pay). There is also a small playground, which gives the kids a nice break from the water. All in all, it was a smart choice of beach to go to (and it wasn't really crowded either). Kylie had fun playing in the sand and water with her cousins. Jordan loved the sand as well and tried to eat it. He liked the water, but got cold quickly. Jordan also wouldn't nap the whole time we were there, which was a bummer, but it worked out fine. Kylie actually took a little cat nap and I wished I could have taken a nap. While Scott and Kyle got sandwiches for lunch, I took Kylie to the playground and she had fun playing there. After lunch, Scott and I were able to go out into the ocean and get attacked by the waves. We were at the beach for about 4 hours before we packed up and headed out. Andrew's family went to the San Diego temple and Kyle had to go pick Aaron up from the airport. We ordered Papa John's pizza for dinner and Trudy was nice and hung a few birthday signs and made cookie bars for my mom's birthday. Once everyone showed up, we had dinner and sang happy birthday. The kids had fun playing outside until it got a little too chilly. We actually got the kids to bed at the same time and then we stayed up and finished watching the BYU football game (which they won) and then went to bed.
Do you see Kylie's head poking out?
